Ladies Captain 'Capsomes' Fun Competition
The Ladies Captain ran an event with a slightly different format last Wednesday. Competitors played the front nine as a Betterball pair and the back nine was played in Greensomes format. Sue Liddeatt and Jane Clark ran out as the winners, beating Sarah Martin and Ann Marsh on the back nine. Third place went to Sandra Jones and Christine Horseman.
Ladies Texas Scramble
This week's ladies competition was played as a Texas Scramble. The team of Sally Anderson, Sarah Martin and Hilda Shields ran out winners with a nett score of 66. Second place went to Caroline Fairhurst, Susie Gibbins and Barbara Lambert who followed very closely behind with a nett 66.3.
Seniors' Stableford
Last Thursday saw some low scoring in the Seniors' Stableford. Overall and division one winner was Glyn Ager who turned on the style for the back nine, scoring an amazing 26 points. Derek Sutton and David Capon both scored 38 points for second and third place in division one respectively. Top of the pile in division two was Paul Jeffery who's 37 points pipped Bernard Druce on the back nine.
Top tips for better ball striking
Take a look at the image below, it's this kind of backswing position that we see quite a lot of - and it's unlikely to lead to a clean strike. In fact, there are three common faults we see in this particular area.
Firstly, spine angle. The best ball strikers all set and maintain a good posture during the swing. During lessons we like to work on getting you to avoid lifting or dipping in the backswing or downswing. What you need to try and do is turn around a constant spine angle, which will deliver more consistent results.
Now, reference to this image, you'll notice how this golfer has swayed back. You do need to shift your weight during the swing, but this kind of movement will lead to fat and thin strikes. Keep your sternum over the ball at impact for better strikes.
Finally, one of the most common faults in the swing is when players come 'over the top'. With the club attacking the ball from outside the ball-to-target line you'll hit a slice or pull with your driver and strike it inconsistently with your irons.
Come and see the team if you're stuck with one of these faults, we'll be happy to help. Get in touch here. I am on holiday this week in Tenerife so I wrote this early to be sent out later on this week, I'll be sure to keep you all posted on what I did whilst I was away, sorry if anyone wanted to see me specifically this week, but please pop in and see Matt who is more than capable of handling most of your enquiries. I will be back in next Wednesday for those wanting to see me.
