Sawgrass has a ‘sting’ in its tail Last week the golfing world descended on Ponte Vedra, Florida for golf’s unofficial fifth major, The Players Championship. Played on the TPC Sawgrass stadium course, it boasts one of the most iconic holes in the golf, the infamous par three 17th hole. The field included a resurgent Tiger Woods and fans were in awe of his impressive ‘stinger’ off the tee. Tiger started slowly, but weekend rounds of 65 & 69 saw him climb the leaderboard to a tied 11th place. |
|
The eventual winner, Webb Simpson, had become a bit of a forgotten major champion with no win on tour for over 5 years. He had struggled with the ban of the anchored stroke he used for his belly putter. He finally settled on a longer handle that ran up the left side of his arm, and then Tim Clark gave him the missing link at The Players a year ago when Clark suggested he also use a claw grip. Simpson has been working his way back to the golf he expects to play and now ranks 5th in strokes gained putting and holed an unbelievable amount over the stadium course. If you would like to improve your putting or learn how to hit the ‘Tiger stinger’ then speak to a member of the team for a lesson. Contact me here. |
