Somerset Girls County Championship

Clevedon were proud hosts of the Somerset Girls County Championship tournament on a very warm day this week. Congratulations to Jess Hays from Bath Golf Club who won the best gross event with a superb 77, Harriet Lockley from Isle of Wedmore won the best gross for the under 14's event with an 85. Another Isle of Wedmore member, Jenni Hughes, took the stableford prize with 39 points and the best nett score was produced by Abby Gray from Farrington Park.

 

Senior Men's Club Championship

Monday saw the Senior Men's Club Championship take place with 59 entrants battling it out for the title. Top of the pile was Reg Wiles, who lost out last year in a play-off, with a very tidy gross 76 which was good enough to take the title by one from Rob Arthur. Best nett score went to Steve Kilby who scored a very good nett 68. A brief run down of the scores are as follows:

Gross - First place - Reg Wiles (76), second place - Rob Arthur (77) and in third place - David Shields (82).
Nett - First place - Steve Kilby (68), second place - Reg Wiles (69) and in third place - Sandy Kemlo (70).

Club Stableford and Chairman's Cup

Saturday's event was played in very windy, and at times wet, conditions. Despite the conditions some very good scores were returned with Clive Randall fairing the best to come in with 40 points. Well played indeed Clive. Full results are as follows:

Division One - First place - Mike Crook (39 points), second place - John Turnbull (38 points) and in third place - Steve Buckland (38 points).
Division Two - First place - Clive Randall (40 points), second place - Simon Preece (38 points) and in third place - Tim Wheeler (36 points).
Division Three - First place - Michael Holson (36 points), second place - Richard Tempany (33 points) and in third place - Chris Marshall (31 points).

For those that managed a two, and entered the sweep, there was a £16 pay-out per two.

Men's Second Team

The Second Team secured their place in Division Four of the Bristol and District Golf League with a fine 4.5 to 1.5 win at home versus Shirehampton Park on Sunday. Well done to Richard Ponsford and all of his team, onwards and upwards next year!

 

Ladies B Team

The Ladies B Team played their penultimate match of the season in wet and windy conditions against Tracy Park at home and won 8 - 6. This keeps them at the top of Division Five with 98 points. Their last game of the season is on Friday, 23 September against Weston-Super-Mare 'B' at home. Well done to Rosemary Fife, Sue Bamford, Alison Lee, Sue Tasker, Sandy Hill, Linda Reynolds and Sue.
